I Couldn't Trust What I Was Consuming
As a medical cannabis patient in Chicago, I've been consuming cannabis legally for years. But legal didn't mean clear.
I've spent over 12 years in the tech industry — building websites, apps, and software products. I know how to build things. But when it came to understanding what I was actually consuming? I was just as lost as everyone else.
Before legalization, there was no way to know what you were actually consuming. Street names meant nothing. Effects were unpredictable. You just hoped for the best.
When cannabis became legal, I expected clarity. Instead, I got marketing. Dispensary menus full of strain names, vague "relaxing" or "uplifting" labels, and zero real information about what I was putting in my body.
Cannabis policy and research access continue to evolve. Useful evidence exists — but it is scattered across academic journals, public records, and industry sources that were not written for everyday consumers.
