Know what a match means

We compare our researched catalog profiles. We do not infer shared chemistry from an indica or sativa label alone. Every alternative needs both terpene overlap and reported-effect overlap.

We rank overlap in catalog-listed terpenes (60%) and reported effects (30%), with a chemistry-based High Family match adding 10%. Overlap means the shared items divided by all distinct items in both profiles. A longer list does not automatically rank higher. The score sorts a shortlist; it is not the probability of a similar experience.

An alternative needs at least two shared terpenes and one shared reported effect, or one shared terpene and two shared reported effects. A starting strain needs at least two listed terpenes, two reported effects and four qualifying alternatives. We link to published researched profiles only.

For this first batch, we review the 100 most popular eligible starting strains and publish the 30 strongest guides. We prefer more alternatives in each shortlist of up to six, then higher average overlap scores, then a closer top match. Popularity breaks overlap ties, with stable ordering for equal ranks.

These are researched strain profiles, not lab results for a specific product. Grower, batch, dose and your own response can change the experience. Check your product’s label before treating a catalog match as a match in your hand.
