How to scan a product label
Scan a product label with your camera or photos, check the details the app reads, and add the product to your stash.
Applies to the High IQ iPhone app · Updated
Use the label scanner to read a product label from a photo or video. The app shows the details it can read. You check them, then add the product to your stash.
Before you start
- Sign in to your account. If you are signed out, you can see the upload step, but you must sign in to start a scan.
- Use good light. Fill the frame with the label text. Make sure the text is visible.
- Photos can be JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC. The app resizes photos before it uploads them.
Steps
- Open the Stash tab.
- Tap More, then tap Scan a label.
- Choose how to start:
- Take photo for one product.
- Upload photos to pick up to 4 photos of one product from your library.
- Upload video (MP4, MOV or WebM), or Record video.
- Scan tips & storage shows tips before you start.
- Wait while the app reads the label. The screen says “Reading your product label…” If it takes a while, it may say “Still working on your label.” To stop, tap Cancel scan.
- Check the results. The app can show the brand, batch, THC, CBD, category, strain type, recorded chemistry (terpenes) and the original label text.
- Check the confidence level. Check each field against the label.
- If the strain is wrong, tap Choose a different strain.
- Save the extracted details. The app asks you to save them before you add the product to your stash.
- Tap Add it to your stash.
The numbers come from the label. High IQ does not check them for safety. The app does not give advice on how much to use.
Note: Each device gets a daily number of scans. The count resets each calendar day. If you see “You’ve used all scans today. More tomorrow,” try again the next day.
Note: For a video, you can choose Use full video frame or Use local frame scanning. Local frame scanning checks frames on your device. It can miss a label that moves. Each frame uses part of your daily scans.
Note: The app saves the text it reads. You can choose Keep originals only on this device to keep the photos and videos on your device only.
If something goes wrong
- “Scan failed”: Try again with good light. Fill the frame with the label. Make sure the label text is visible. Tap Try again, or tap Change photos.
- “This scan took too long”: Your photo is still saved. Tap retry, or choose a clearer photo or fewer photos.
- “Permission required”: Open iPhone Settings, tap High IQ, then allow camera or photo library access.
- The strain is wrong: Tap Choose a different strain before you add the product.
